Black Fire This Time


In 1968 Black Fire literary anthology edited by Imari Baraka and Larry Neal was released creating a clarion call for the Black Arts Movement. Essays and poetry from a range of authors including Nathan Hare, Calvin C. Hernton, Sun-Ra, Henry Dumas, A.B. Spellman, Sonia Sanchez and many others. 

Fifty-four years later Willow Press has produced Black Fire This Time. Edited by Dr. Kim McMillon, with an Introduction by Dr. Margo Natalie Crawford, the theme of this anthology is “Black is Beautiful, Black is Powerful, Black is Home. ” Exploring the past, present and future of Black writing, this collection bridges many of the founders of the Black Arts Movement—including Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, Haki Madhubuti, Amiri Baraka, Wanda Coleman, Dudley Randall, Eugene B. Redmond and Askia Touré as well as newer voices such as Karla Brundage, Allison E. Francis, Tongo Eisen-Martin and C. Liegh McInnis. 

Celebrating the publication of Black Fire This Time a series of podcasts including poetry and discussions about the Black Arts Movement are being produced by Willow Press.  The first three podcasts are now available.
